Dogs with Legg-Calves-Perthes Disease

Hello and thanks for checking out my story. My westie, Howie who is now about one year old, has been diagnosed with Legg-Calve-Perthes disease and needed major surgery to remove the “ball” part of the hip joint, as it has died from lack of blood flow. I was shocked, angry, and sad when I found out. I hope this blog can bring awareness to research and treatment methods for the disease as well as help owners who are affected by it. It is thought to be a hereditary disease and breeders need to start taking responsibility for it.

I will be chronicling Howie as he goes through the process from diagnosis on to surgery and then recovery. I hope that this will help worried dog owners and give hope for the future for your little pup. Please comment if you have questions!
